East Middle School Teacher Receives Human Rights Commission Grant to Purchase Books by Diverse Authors

Text:
East Middle School social studies teacher, Alison Sullivan, has received nearly $500 in financial support from the Traverse City Human Rights Commission (HRC) to purchase a classroom set of the book, “Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You” by Jason Reynolds. The book is the young-adult version of the 2016 National Book Award Winner for Nonfiction, “Stamped from the Beginning” by Ibram X. Kendi. The book aligns with 8th Grade U.S. History curriculum as well as the mission statement of the HRC. The HRC sponsorship was granted after an application process and a presentation to their board.

Amazon listing states this is not a history book, yet this text is quickly becoming mandatory reading in many High Schools as engineered propaganda with many historical inaccuracies. Read the one star reviews for more examples and be on the lookout if your 8th or 9th grader has this mandatory reading.
